Like shopping? Well, Fleetwood and Cleveleys are both traditional seaside resorts, which have grown into popular shopping destinations, and which can offer some of the best bargains around.

Fleetwood offers its busy time-honoured market- a popular spot to shop and Cleveleys, never to be outshone, can also offer a huge range of shops and bargains along Victoria Road, which stretches toward the sea.

Take a ride along the sea front on one of the few remaining traditional road tramways, build sandcastles with the children or take in a show at the Marine Hall. Visit Jubilee Gardens or just sit and watch the migrating birds reach our shore from distant lands. The coastline of Wyre is rich and varied all the year round and will grace you with its mix of the traditional and the contemporary.

Fleetwood Waterfront Environmental Action Scheme.

Wyre Borough Council created the waterfront section in February 2006. The role of the section is to oversee a co-ordinated approach tot the management of the foreshore and its facilities between Fleetwood and the boundary with Blackpool.

An element of the Waterfront area falls within the Pharos ward of Fleetwood, which qualifies for European objective 2 funding. This funding is restricted to the most deprived areas in England and the council have been successful in securing £108,000 to undertake an environmental enhancement scheme in the area between the pier and the leisure centre. The council has matched this allocation to provide an initial budget of £1/4 million.

This major funding has been provided to significantly improve the quality of the environment within the area and set the benchmark for the wider development of the Waterfront area. It is intended that the design will ensure the area will be attractive to residents and visitors alike creating an open space that will provide interest and opportunity to enjoy a coastal outdoor environment. It is also intended to extend the current healthy walks programme on the Waterfront and create volunteering opportunities within the area.

In June 2007 extensive consultation was done with local residents, local schools and visitors to establish what they wanted to see in the area. All feedback and responses were collated and the plan was drawn to include these ideas.

Work has begun on phase I and the Waterfront team will soon commence consultation with the community regarding phase 2 prior to securing funding.
